Pro Humanitate Days 2026 - DC - Open Goal
7:30 A.M. - 10:30 A.M.
Join fellow Wake Forest alumni for a meaningful Pro Humanitate Day opportunity with Open Goal Project, a groundbreaking nonprofit committed to eliminating systemic barriers associated with pay-to-play soccer founded by former Wake Forest standout soccer student-athlete Amir Lowery ('04). A DC native, Amir (currently the organization’s Executive Director) played professionally for nearly a decade before returning home to create Open Goal Project, which works to eliminate financial barriers in youth soccer and create pathways to college, careers and leadership for youth from marginalized communities in DC. Through competitive soccer and holistic programming, including DC Football Club (DCFC), DC's first and only 100% free-to-play youth travel soccer club, Open Goal Project serves more than 500 young men and women annually. All of Open Goal Project’s programs are 100% free to participants, and are entirely funded by donations, grants and corporate sponsorships. MLS GO Powered by DCFC is Open Goal Project’s in-house league for student-athletes ages 5–12. Participants train twice per week and compete in small-sided games on Saturday mornings. Saturday, March 28 is their Spring Kickoff Day, when student-athletes receive their new uniforms for the season and play their first games of the spring. Volunteer roles for the day may include organizing jerseys for distribution, handing out kits to players, assisting with equipment setup and field management, helping coaches oversee small-sided games, and managing coffee and snack tables for families and participants This is a hands-on opportunity to live out Wake Forest’s Pro Humanitate spirit while supporting a fellow Demon Deacon who is using the power of sport to expand access and opportunity in his hometown. Families with kids are encouraged to attend and kids are encouraged to bring their cleats to play. We hope you’ll join us on the field!
